Newish Route Details

Originally, we planned an overland epic from the UK, through Europe, Iran, India, Australia and then over to South America.  After the accident during our shakedown trip, we realised we didn’t want to spend so much time and money shipping, and Martin hadn’t sorted his Iran visa either!

When we jumped back into Baloo, we needed a new plan.  So we decided to head north!

Part 1 MAY-JUL 2016 Macclesfield to Nordkapp: Fjords.

Part 2 JUL-SEP 2016 Nordkapp to Dubrovnik: Beaches.

Part 3 SEP-DEC 2016 Dubrovnik to Athens: Balkans.

Part 4 DEC-FEB 2017 Australia: Melbourne to Cairns, and the Red Centre.

Part 5 FEB-MAR 2017 Patagonia: Our first time in South America.

Part 6 MAR-MAY 2017 Inca: The rest of Argentina and Chile, then Peru and Ecuador.

Part 7 MAY-JUN 2017 Bolivia and Brazil: Cross Continent

Original Route Details

This is what we originally thought we might do…

Part 1 UK to Iran through Europe: Despite having always lived in Europe, most of our holidays here have been to central and western Europe. So we will rectify some of that and visit the Balkan states. (It might also help with Andi’s geography. Although she had to learn the location and capital cities of all the countries and watched eurovision she would struggle in a geography test now.)

From South Iran we will then ship the car to Mumbai. This is going to shipping time. So we won’t have that chance to see many places but will hop over to Dubai and if possible also explore a few other places nearby.

Part 2 South India: We have been fortunate enough to visit the north of India and Rajasthan plus the golden triangle in particular. On this leg we will focus on the south. We’ll drive all the way down to the southern tip of India and then back up again to Chennai.

From here we will ship the car to Perth (Fremantle). During the time when the car is on the boat we’re planning on hopping over to Singapore and spend some time in south east Asia.

Part 3 Australia: In Australia we drive along the south coast from Perth to Sydney. Hopefully we manage to avoid any snakes or spiders but instead see lots of Kangaroos. Martin would love to drive up to Alice Springs as well but we will have to see how we are doing time wise.

From Sydney we then ship the car to Lima (Peru). This will take a while so will give us the chance to check out New Zealand.

Part 4 South America: We are going to drive south as far as we can through Peru and Chile. With current timings we will be there during South American winter, so Puerto Montt might be as far south has we get before crossing the Andes and over into Argentina.

From Buenos Aires we will the ship our car back to the UK and it will be the end of the trip.
